Keith R. Edwards, M.D. - Director

is Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, Boston and a Consulting Neurologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  He is Director of the MS Center of Northeastern New York in Latham, NY and Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Southern Vermont, Bennington, Vermont.  He has been board certified in neurology since 1978. 

 

After earning his medical degree from Duke Medical School, Durham, NC, Dr. Edwards completed a medical internship at Boston City Hospital and a neurology residency at the University of Vermont School of Medicine, Burlington, Vermont.  There Dr. Edwards trained under Dr. George Schumacher and Dr. Charles Poser concentrating in clinical care and research in multiple sclerosis.

 

Dr. Edwards has been involved with multiple sclerosis and Alzheimers evaluation, treatment and research for 30 years.  He has been involved in NIH supported research in neurotransmitters, National MS Society grants in genetic research, individual research grants and multicenter treatment trials.  Dr. Edwards has served on many scientific advisory committees and editorial boards.  His work has been published in numerous scientific journals including Neurology, Clinical Journal of Pharmacology, Multiple Sclerosis, Archives of Neurology, and Biochemical Pharmacology and others.  He is also the author of book chapters and many Internet articles.  He has lectured nationally and internationally.

 

He has been involved with Dementia, neuropathic pain and headache evaluation, treatment and research for over 30 years. He participated in many multi-centered treatment trials for new pain and headache medications as well as many new Alzheimer's medications.

 

Dr. Edwards in a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, a member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) and the NY State Consortium of MS Center.  He is also a Fellow of the American Headache Society, a Member of the Board of the New England Pain Association, a member of the American Pain Society, the International Psychogeriatric Association, International Headache Consortium and the Alzheimer’s Society.   He is on the Professional Advisory Board of the National Multiple Society, the Advisory Board of the New York State Consortium of MS Centers and the Membership Committee of the International Psychogeriatric Association.

Barbara L. Rosenthal, M.D

received her B.S degree from Cornell University and her M.D from SUNY Upstate Medical Center in 1982. She is board certified in Family Medicine, is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Headache Society. Dr. Rosenthal has special training in headache, pain and facial disorders and injection therapies including use of Botulinium Toxin A & B. She works closely with the neurology team in management of back and neck pain and headache by non-narcotic and nonsurgical intervention. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a consulting/afflilated staff at Ellis Hospital and also certified in the subspeciality of Headache Medicine by the United Council of Neurologic Specialities.

Audrey L. Halpern, M.D

is a Board Certified neurologist. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the International Headache Society and the American Headache Society. She has published in the field of migraine headache. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pittsburg School of Medicine and was a resident of neurology at the Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. She is a Headache Fellow at Jefferson Headache Center in Philadelphia. She has experience in lumbar puncture, botulinium toxin injection for migraine, cervical and limb distonia, nerve and occipital block, trigger point injections and infusion therapy for headache.

William A. Goodman, Psy. D

is a licensed clinical psychologist with speciaties in neuropsychology, geriatric and child psychology. He has expertise in neuropsychology and is experienced with the types of problems faced by patients and families with MS. He is an expert in the study of memory and cognitive disorders. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, and the Virginia Consortium in Clinical Psychology at the College of William and Mary, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Old Dominion University, and the Norfolk State University. Dr. Goodman has been practicing clinical psychology for over 20 years and has been published many articles in various topics concerning MS and has presented at scientific meeting both nationally and internationally. He conducts neuropsychological testing, family counseling and consultations for MS patients.

Francisco J. Gomez, M.D., FAHA - Participating in Clinical Research

 

He joins us from Ellis Neurological Associates, Schenectady, NY. Dr. Gomez is the NY Chief Division of Neurology, Department of Neurosciences, Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, NY. He is also part of our neurological team participating in clinical research at our Center. Dr. Gomez is Board Certified in Neurology and Psychiatry.

 

After earning his medical degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA, Dr. Gomez completed a medical internship from University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA and a neurology residency from the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, IA. He has active medical licenses in New York, Wisconsin and Illinois. Dr. Gomez is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American Heart Association and American Headache Society. Dr. Gomez is very fluent in Spanish. He has been a sub-investigator in many clinical trials. He has contributed and published papers in numerous publications.
